ABOUT OUR COMPETITION
Most grounds and affiliated clubs reside predominately in the North of Metropolitan Melbourne, Victoria. The Association is based at Landra Avenue Community Hall (Burland House) in the suburb of Keon Park.
NMCA runs four distinct competitions with all matches played on synthetic wicket.
Season starts on the first Saturday of October with the Junior competition generally the following week.
Four piece balls are used in our top grades, with a two piece ball used in our lower grades and junior competition.
Thirty Two clubs are affiliated with NMCA, twenty eight entering senior teams and twenty four entering junior teams.
Most matches are held on Saturdays with up to two Sundays required in the home and away season.
Junior matches are predominately held on Friday nights with U/11’s on Monday Nights.
Senior and juniors final series are played on Saturday and Sunday in March of each year.
The association executives is made up of ten elected members from Clubs, and are voted to two year terms.
Structure:
1. Senior Competition:
Eight grades consisting of eight teams each and two grades consisting of six teams each. Each club is required to have a minimum of two teams to compete in the top three grades.
The top three grades are made up of clubs first XI teams, with separate grades for their 2nd XI teams.
Promotion and relegation operates and is based on the premiers going up and the last placed team going down. Fourteen rounds with seven one day matches and seven two day matches. Each team plays each other twice, on a home and away basis.
Once in a one day match and once in a two day match.
Two day matches have compulsory closure after eighty overs and one day matches are set at forty over’s as side.
The premiership is decided by a final series involving the top four teams on the ladder at the end of the home and away fixture.
The final series for the three Shield grades consists of three rounds run over three weekends, with the top two teams receiving a double chance in the first week of the finals.
Semi-final round - 1st Semi-final = 1st team vs 2nd team and 2nd semi = 3rd team vs 4th team.
Preliminary Final - loser of 1st semi-final vs. winner of 2nd semi-final. Final – winner of 1st semi vs. winner of preliminary final.
All other Senior grades follow the 1 v 4 and 2 v 4 final format over two weeks.
Shields are presented to the premiers and runners up.
A premiership medallion is handed out to each player.
Man of the match is declared and medal presented in final.
Umpires receive a final medallion each.
2. One day Competition:
Stand alone competition can consisting of up to two grades of ten team each.
14 rounds are scheduled each season.
Matches are thirty five over’s each.
Batsmen have compulsory retirement at fifty runs and bowlers can only bowl a maximum of seven overs.
The one day premiership is decided by a final series involving the top for teams on the ladder at the end of the home and away fixture.
The final series consists of two rounds, run over two weekends.
Semi-final round - 1st Semi-final = 1st team vs 4th team and 2nd semi = 2nd team vs 3rd team.
Final – winner of 1st semi vs. winner of 2nd semi-final.
Shields are presented to the premiers and the runners up. A premiership medallion is handed out to each player.
Man of the match is declared and medal presented in final.

3. Veterans:
Stand alone competition consisting of one grade of between six and eight teams each.
Up to 10 rounds are scheduled each season. All Matches are played as a one day match of thirty five over’s each.
Batsmen have compulsory retirement at fifty runs and bowlers can only bowl a maximum of five overs.
The one day premiership is decided by a final series involving the top for teams on the ladder at the end of the home and away fixture.
The final series consists of one round, run over one weekend.
Final – top placed team on the ladder at the end of the season hosts a grand final against the team that finishes second on the ladders.
Shields are presented to the premiers and the runners up.
A premiership medallion is handed out to each player.
Man of the match is declared and medal presented in final.
Umpires receive a final medallion each.
4. Junior Competition:
The association manages U/11, U/13, U/15 and U/17 matches each season.
Clubs also run Milo cricket program for ages between five and nine.
Grading age is set at 30 September.
The junior competition support mixed male and female players.
Junior rules for U/11’s, U/13’s and U/15’s are focussed on participation for all players, with compulsory retirements for batsmen and restriction of over’s for bowlers enforced.
The final series consists of two rounds, run over two weekends.

Final – winner of 1st semi final vs. winner of 2nd semi final,
